High-Intensity Daily Personal Activities (HIDPA) in the NDIS

For many NDIS participants, daily living tasks can become significantly more challenging when complex health needs are involved. High-Intensity Daily Personal Activities are specialised supports designed to ensure individuals with higher clinical or behavioural needs can live safely, comfortably and with dignity in their own homes and communities. At Ideal Care Services, we understand that these supports require not only advanced skills but also genuine compassion and consistency.

What Are High-Intensity Daily Personal Activities?

High-intensity supports refer to specialised personal care tasks that involve higher clinical risk and require trained and competent support workers. These activities must be delivered according to strict care plans developed by health professionals and followed consistently to ensure participant safety.

Examples of High-Intensity Daily Personal Activities

Participants who require high-intensity supports may need assistance with a range of complex care tasks, including:

  • Medication administration – supporting participants to take prescribed medications safely and correctly according to their medication plans.
  • PEG feeding – providing nutrition, fluids and medication through a PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) tube while maintaining hygiene and monitoring for complications.
  • Epilepsy management – recognising seizure activity, following seizure management plans and responding appropriately during and after seizures.
  • Diabetes management – assisting with blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration (where required) and supporting healthy routines as per care plans.
  • Mealtime management plans – supporting participants with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) by following structured mealtime plans to reduce risks such as choking.
  • Complex bowel and continence supports – assisting with bowel care routines, continence management, hygiene and monitoring for health concerns.

In addition to these, some participants may also require other high-risk clinical supports depending on their individual health needs and care plans.

Why High-Intensity Support Matters

High-intensity supports are more than just clinical tasks they are essential to maintaining a participant’s quality of life. When delivered correctly, they:

  • Reduce health risks and prevent complications
  • Promote independence and confidence
